The days are getting warmer, the great outdoors are calling, and the Rio Grande Valley is packed with an incredible lineup of events! Whether you want to enjoy nature, rock out at a live concert, or taste the best food the region has to offer, here is your ultimate guide to the events happening in April, May, and June.

Awesome April Events

April is an incredible month for birding, pop culture, and spectacular live music across the Valley!

Nature and birding opportunities are in full swing, with events in Weslaco like the Spring Chirp Birding Festival offering access to renowned hot spots for migratory birds. Brownsville also hosts a birding festival at the Gladys Porter Zoo, featuring expert speakers and field trips to beautiful sanctuaries. In McAllen, Quinta Mazatlan hosts a weekly Thursday Speaker Series throughout the month, covering topics from bats in palms to local doves, and celebrates pollinators with Monarch Fest.

Live music and culture are also thriving. Edinburg hosts the South Texas Mariachi Festival, paying tribute to the pioneering women of La Canción Ranchera and honoring legendary performers. At the McAllen Performing Arts Center, visitors can enjoy performances ranging from acoustic sets to orchestral concerts.

For those who love pop culture, South Texas Comic Con at the McAllen Convention Center delivers an exciting weekend filled with comics, anime, gaming, and celebrity guests.

May: Broadway, Metal, and Zoo Brews

May heats up with amazing theatrical performances and a wild night at the zoo!

Concerts across the Valley offer something for every taste, from regional Mexican music to alternative and heavy sounds at local venues. It’s a great time to catch live performances and discover new artists in an energetic setting.

Theatrical performances bring both chills and laughs, with productions like The Four Phantoms in Concert featuring former stars of The Phantom of the Opera, and interactive shows like Clue – Live on Stage that blend mystery with humor.

Brew at the Zoo offers a unique experience at the Gladys Porter Zoo, where guests can enjoy craft beers, sample dishes from local restaurants, and take in live music while supporting animal conservation.

June: Summer Kickoffs and Foodie Fun

Kick off the summer with mouth-watering food festivals, nighttime adventures, and block-buster musicals!

Food-focused events take center stage, with Taste McAllen showcasing signature dishes from local restaurants alongside live music and artisan vendors. Tres Lagos Tacos and Tequila Night brings a lively atmosphere with creative taco offerings, refreshing drinks, and live mariachi music.

Nighttime nature and family fun create memorable experiences, from Jurassic RGV at Quinta Mazatlan with life-sized animatronic dinosaurs to Summer Flashlight Nights, where visitors can spot owls, bats, and scorpions on guided evening hikes. Events like Fishing with Dad at Tres Lagos Park provide meaningful opportunities for families to connect outdoors.

Entertainment continues throughout the month with highlights like the Tony Award–winning Hadestown Musical, live performances from touring artists and DJs, and fan-favorite events like the annual RGV PokeFest, featuring cosplay contests and Pokémon tournaments.

Don’t forget that many of the Valley’s amazing farmers markets, like McAllen’s Grow'n Growers and the Harlingen Farmer’s Market, run through mid-June, making it the perfect time to stock up on fresh summer produce.

Spring and early summer in the Rio Grande Valley bring a unique mix of energy, culture, and community. From outdoor adventures and live music to food festivals and family-friendly experiences, there’s something happening for everyone. It’s the perfect time to explore new events, support local favorites, and enjoy everything the RGV has to offer while making lasting memories along the way.
